Frequently asked questions
What if I am shy in front of the camera?
I am too! Seriously… That is why I stay BEHIND the camera. I am empathetic to the feelings that come from being in front of the camera. I have an assortment of silly, fun ideas and prompts to get us laughing, moving, and grooving. This is what leads to that authentic emotion, and in turn, the most cherished photos!
What happens after we book?
After you book your session, I will touch base with you and introduce myself. I may have some clarification questions, or suggestions for your session. Then I will send a contract and collect a retainer to hold the date and time. We can also get on a consult call to chat about your session in more detail.
How many pictures will we receive?
For 90-minute portrait sessions, you are guaranteed a minimum number of 45 edited images
Should I bring anything to our session?
I always love “props”! They add depth, story, and a personal touch. If you are an expecting mother, you can bring ultrasound, baby toys and outfits. If you have a little one, you can bring their favorite toy (shakers and noise-makers always come in handy to get their attention). If you have a family member to help with multiple littles, that can help take pressure off of you. I will provide a carpet for sitting outdoors in the grass. Bug spray and sunscreen is never a bad idea.
How should we dress for our family session?
It is important that you are comfortable and able to move around. Also, keep the weather in mind. For most family portrait sessions, pants, skirts, dresses, button-downs are all great choices. To make sure the attention stays on you, avoid any crazy colors and patterns. Neutral, solid colors are always a great choice.
What’s the best time to have a session?
I am partial to “golden hour” light when it is applicable. It is the time of day where the sun is about 2 hours from setting. It is called golden hour because the light is warm and soft, making for very flattering images!
What if my littles are grumpy & not cooperating?
There are benefits to longer sessions, we can ebb and flow on their timeline. Perhaps they’re a bit grumpy - how can we encourage play, joy, and fun? And if they are still grumpy, we can shorten the session or embrace capturing their different expressions and emotions.
What happens if it rains?
We can embrace it or reschedule. If there is the chance for inclement weather, we can communicate at least 6-hours in advance to decide whether we reschedule or stick to the plan. Photos in the rain can be a great way to create new, fun memories with your family!
Do you have location ideas?
Yes! I also do quite a bit of research before-hand if I have not yet been to a location you suggest. I always consider lighting, accessibility, and the aesthetics of a location.
What if we don’t want our photos public?
Not a problem at all! It is required that you state this before signing the contract - as the contract will have you sign that the images can be used publicly. If I know in advance that you want them private for protecting your child's identity, I can photograph in a way that will allow you to post online without compromising the child's identity. Client photo galleries used publicly for marketing are typically priced lower than private galleries.
